What to Expect

What to Expect During a Session

At your first session you will be greeted and asked to complete a Health History Form. This will give the Reflexologist a look at your current and past health, which will assist her in determining what type of pressure might be appropriate and which methods of Reflexology she may use during the session.

You will be invited to the treatment room where you will remove only your footwear (shoes, socks, tights). Typically a foot bath is offered at this time, or the Reflexologist may clean your feet with antibacterial gel or hand wipes.

You are then welcomed over to a reclining chair, which allows the best access to the feet for the Reflexologist, and a very relaxing experience for you.

Gentle pressure is then applied to your feet while you lie back and relax, listening to soothing background music. Your Reflexologist may use cream or powder during your session. Please inform the Reflexologist of any allergens prior to the session so these can be avoided.

During the session you are free to chat, remain quiet, or doze off if you'd like. You are encouraged to ask any questions you may have before, during or after the session.

You will find that reflexology is typically a very pleasant, relaxing and rejuvenating therapy. Also, you do not need to be unwell to receive the benefits of Reflexology!

A Note on Pressure

A typical session starts and ends with some gentle relaxation techniques. The pressure is adjusted to your comfort, ranging from light to firm, usually a moderate pressure is comfortable. Please speak up if any areas are sensitive, your Reflexologist will adjust her pressure.

Different reflexes spark different sensations, however sensitivity to a reflex point does not automatically imply that there is a problem within the body. Sensitivity can mean all sorts of things.

Maintaining Sessions

Depending on your goals with Reflexology and your current stress levels you may wish to return more frequently after the first session and then taper your sessions off. The choice is always yours to make when deciding how frequently to experience Reflexology.

The Barefoot Dragonfly offers two discounted plans to help make Reflexology a more affordable part of your healthy lifestyle, rather than the occasional luxury.

  • The Maintenance Program offers discounts based on weekly or monthly sessions.

  • The Series Packages offers discounts when a series of three or six sessions are purchased in advance.
